The Bay Cup is starting up again! We’ve got two tournaments scheduled so far and will be working with host clubs to get the rest of the season’s tournaments scheduled. We’re kicking things off with senior and junior saber opens at Premier on Nov 28 and with vet epee and foil events at Halberstadt on Dec 5.

At this point we are requiring that all fencers participating in the events be fully vaccinated for COVID and are beginning the season with events restricted in age to 13 and older (Junior, Senior, and Vet). We will also require that all staff, referees, and visitors at the event be vaccinated. Now that vaccinations are available for youths age 5 and up, we anticipate starting youth Bay Cup tournaments in February or March.
There will be some changes in our operations this year. During the last several seasons before the pandemic, participation in Bay Cup events decreased significantly. We believe this was mainly due to the increase in the number of regional tournaments scheduled by USA Fencing. Unfortunately, with lower attendance at our events, the model for how we organized, ran, and grew The Bay Cup to become the largest local series in the US became unsustainable. Thus, for the upcoming season, we are scaling back the number of series and events and have revised the tournament hosting arrangements and responsibilities, with the clubs having a few more responsibilities for event setup and fee collection. We will still track standings in the series but will not be awarding gift certificates at the end of the season. We have reduced the Bay Cup event fees and will not be offering season membership to help lighten our administrative load.
The 2020-2021 Battle of the Bay Div 1A ROC and Battle of the Vets Tournament wasn’t held due to Covid but the National Office has rescheduled our tournament for the Feb 5-6, 2022 weekend at TFC.
